The Scott Solar Sub-Surface Aeration System is an off-grid, solar-powered bottom-diffused aeration package designed for ponds that don't have AC power within easy run of the water. Two 300 W high-efficiency solar panels feed a brushless rocking-piston compressor inside a non-corrosive ULTRAGUARD fiberglass enclosure. Air goes straight from the cabinet to self-weighted diffusers sitting on the pond floor, lifting water from the bottom to the surface and turning the entire water column over - the most effective way to oxygenate a pond and prevent stratification, foul odors, and summertime fish kills.
Two sizes cover most pond builds: the standard Solar Sub-Surface (one compressor, two diffusers, 2.5 SCFM at 30+ ft, sized for ponds up to about 2.5 acres) and the bigger Solar XL (two compressors, four diffusers, 5 SCFM, sized for larger water bodies up to about 5 acres). Both versions ship with 3/8 in airline (100 ft per diffuser), pole-mount hardware for the solar panels (pole not included), and the full enclosure assembly with circuit breakers, pressure gauge, and brass flow-balancing ball valves pre-installed.
Because the system is solar-driven, you get zero electrical bill, no electricity in or near the water, and no trenching back to a shore-mounted outlet. Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Pond Size: Solar Sub-Surface fits ponds up to 2.5 acres; Solar XL handles ponds up to about 5 acres. For deeper or higher-acreage water bodies, talk to us about a multi-cabinet config.
- Sun Exposure: the solar panels need direct unobstructed sun for at least 6 hours per day to hit rated runtime. Cloudy or heavily shaded sites will see reduced daily operation but the system will still run during sun hours.
- Pole and Mounting Hardware: the top-of-pole racking comes with the system but the pole itself is sold separately. Plan on a 4 in steel pole anchored in concrete; height should keep panels above any shrub or grass canopy.
- Cabinet Placement: mount the enclosure within 100 ft of each diffuser drop point. The included 3/8 in airline runs 100 ft per diffuser. For longer runs, contact us at order time.
- Diffuser Placement: drop self-weighted diffusers at the deepest accessible point in the pond. For multi-diffuser systems, spread the diffusers across the pond's two deepest zones.
- Cold-Weather Operation: the compressor will run year round in mild climates. In freezing climates, pull the diffusers into shallower water during winter to maintain a small open-water area without freezing the airline.
- Maintenance: wash the slide-in air intake filter as needed; brush off the solar panels seasonally; visually check the pressure gauge for changes that indicate diffuser fouling.
