The Vertex Air 1 Plus XL2 Aerator System is a two-station bottom-diffused aeration setup built around the same 1/3 HP Brookwood rotary-vane compressor as the Air 1 XL2, but paired with two XL2 AirStations instead of one. Each AirStation carries two 9 in self-cleaning membrane disks, so the system runs four total disks and moves up to 6,700 gallons per minute. That extra capacity covers ponds up to about 4 acres at depths greater than 8 ft, or smaller water bodies with irregular shorelines where spreading two stations across the bottom delivers better circulation than a single point source.
Two electrical options cover residential and commercial installations: standard 115V and 230V. The compressor uses upgraded rotors, stators, valve plates, bearings, and capacitors tuned to run continuously 24/7 with a 2 to 3 year duty cycle between scheduled maintenance. SafeStart auto-restart technology brings the compressor back online under maximum rated pressure without motor damage after a power loss, and thermal overload protection trips before the compressor can overheat.

Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Pond Surface: up to 4 acres on the Air 1 Plus XL2 at depths greater than 8 ft. Smaller irregular ponds also benefit from spreading two AirStations across the water body. For larger ponds, look at the Air 2, Air 3, or Air 4 systems.
- Pond Depth: 30 ft maximum operating depth. Standard XL2 AirStations are rated for 8 ft or deeper - for shallower water Vertex offers optional Shallow Water XL2 SW stations on request.
- Power: pick 115V or 230V (60 Hz). The cabinet plugs into a properly sized GFCI-protected dedicated circuit.
- Cabinet Placement: the QuietAir Small cabinet mounts on shore within reach of a power outlet. Use the included heavy-duty mounting pad. Shade helps keep compressor temperatures down in summer.
- Tubing Run: 3/8 in BottomLine self-weighted tubing connects the cabinet to each AirStation. You may need two tubing kits depending on AirStation placement - measure each run and choose 50, 100, 250, or 500 ft above. The cabinet has a dual-valved control manifold to feed both stations.
- AirStation Placement: drop the two XL2 stations at the deepest spots in the pond, or spread them across two distinct sections for irregular shorelines. Self-sinking stainless bases prevent sinking into soft sediment.
- Sound Reduction: the Small Cabinet sound kit adds a muffler box, insulation, and quiet filter. Order at the same time as the system to get a single-shipment install.
- Winter Operation: the Air 1 Plus XL2 can run year round. In freezing climates we recommend pulling the AirStations into shallower water during winter to maintain a small open-water area without freezing the cabinet.
