The Vertex Air 1 XL2 Pond Aeration System is a single-station bottom-diffused aeration setup built around a 1/3 HP Brookwood rotary-vane compressor and a single XL2 AirStation with two 9 in self-cleaning membrane disks. It moves up to 5,100 gallons per minute and can effectively aerate ponds up to 3 acres in surface area at depths greater than 8 ft. The shore-mounted QuietAir cabinet houses the compressor, a 140 CFM cooling fan, GFCI safety circuits, and the dual-valved aluminum control manifold that ships pre-assembled and ready to run.
Two electrical options cover residential and commercial installations: standard 115V and 230V. Each version uses the same Brookwood compressor internals - upgraded rotors, stators, valve plates, bearings, and capacitors - tuned to run continuously 24/7 with a 2 to 3 year duty cycle between scheduled maintenance. SafeStart auto-restart technology brings the compressor back online under maximum rated pressure without motor damage after a power loss, and thermal overload protection trips before the compressor can overheat.

Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Pond Surface: up to 3 acres on the Air 1 XL2 at depths greater than 8 ft. For larger ponds, look at the Air 2 / Air 3 / Air 4 or HighFlow systems.
- Pond Depth: 30 ft maximum operating depth. The standard XL2 AirStation is rated for 8 ft or deeper - for shallower water Vertex offers an optional Shallow Water XL2 SW station on request.
- Power: pick 115V or 230V (60 Hz). The cabinet plugs into a properly sized GFCI-protected dedicated circuit.
- Cabinet Placement: the QuietAir cabinet mounts on shore within reach of a power outlet. Use the included heavy-duty mounting pad. Shade helps keep compressor temperatures down in summer.
- Tubing Run: 3/8 in BottomLine self-weighted tubing connects the cabinet to the AirStation. Measure from cabinet to AirStation drop point and choose 50, 100, 250, or 500 ft above.
- AirStation Placement: drop the XL2 in the deepest part of the pond, near the center if possible. The self-sinking stainless base prevents sinking into soft sediment.
- Sound Reduction: the Small Cabinet sound kit adds a muffler box, insulation, and quiet filter. Order at the same time as the system to get a single-shipment install.
- Winter Operation: the Air 1 XL2 can run year round. In freezing climates we recommend pulling the AirStation into shallower water during winter to maintain a small open-water area without freezing the cabinet.
