Both are American-made (Kasco in Wisconsin, Scott in Michigan) and both are excellent. The choice usually comes down to pond size and use case.

Choose Kasco when: You have a 1+ acre pond, commercial property (golf course, HOA, municipal lake), need 5+ HP, want bottom-diffused aeration (Robust-Aire), or prefer oil-free compressors. Kasco's HP ladder goes higher and the tiered warranty rewards heavier-duty units.

Choose Scott when: You have a smaller residential pond (under 1 acre), want the simplest spec sheet (Scott's classic DA-20 or Boilermaker), need 3 HP or less, or want a 5-year motor warranty across the whole lineup. Scott's pure aerators have a slight edge per HP for oxygen transfer.

Both are floating Kasco fountains but they're tuned for different goals.

The J Series is the decorative line. Six interchangeable spray nozzles let you change the look — V-pattern, geyser, multi-tier, crown — so it's the right pick when the fountain is a focal point. HP range 3/4 to 7.5 HP, the widest HP ladder of any Kasco fountain.

The VFX is an aerating fountain. Fixed V-pattern spray that's tuned to maximize oxygen transfer while still looking like a fountain. HP range 1/2 to 5 HP. The right pick when you want both water quality and decorative spray from one unit.

Robust-Aire is Kasco's bottom-diffused aeration system — instead of a fountain or surface aerator that agitates the top of the water, a shore-mounted air compressor pushes air through weighted tubing (SureSink) down to a diffuser sitting on the pond bottom. The diffuser releases millions of tiny bubbles that rise to the surface, transferring oxygen the whole way up and circulating the entire water column.

This is the gold standard for deeper ponds (8+ ft) because surface aerators only oxygenate the top few feet and can't break the thermocline. Robust-Aire works the whole pond. Plus it's silent at the pond (compressor sits on shore in a cabinet) and energy-efficient.

The AquatiClear is Kasco's high-flow horizontal water circulator. Think of it as Kasco's answer to a muck blaster, but built for commercial duty cycles. Available in 1/2 HP and 1 HP, 120V or 240V, cord lengths from 25 ft up to 200+ ft. AquatiClear units carry the 2-year warranty.

Yes — the Kasco De-Icer is the industry standard for keeping a hole open in pond and dock ice through the winter. Critical for fish ponds where ice cover would cause oxygen depletion and fish kills, and for marinas/docks where ice buildup can damage hulls and pilings.

The de-icer is essentially a propeller-driven circulator that creates a small current to keep one area ice-free. Available in 1/2, 3/4, and 1 HP and carries the 3-year warranty (one of the longer Kasco coverage tiers).

One important note for Kasco: units 1.5 HP and above are 240V-only (the motors draw too much amperage for a standard 120V circuit). If your pond needs more than 1 HP, plan for a 240V outlet at the pond edge — most electricians can run that as a half-day install.
