Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Pond Depth: the Shallow kit is rated for ponds up to 7 ft deep, and the Deep kit for ponds up to 12 ft deep. If your pond is deeper than 12 ft or larger than half an acre, call us for a custom sizing.
- Shore Access: the air pump sits on the shore inside the included stone enclosure. You need a level spot within 100 ft of the pond edge with access to a 115 V GFCI outlet.
- Power: standard 115 V household current with GFCI protection. Runs 24/7 - budget roughly 60 to 100 W of continuous draw depending on which kit you have.
- Tubing Length: 100 ft of weighted sinking tubing ships with each kit. Measure from your intended pump location on shore straight to the deepest spot in the pond. If you need more than 100 ft, call before ordering.
- Diffuser Placement: set the diffuser(s) at the deepest point of the pond. On the Deep kit, space the two diffusers across the deepest area for better coverage.
- Startup Behavior: when you first turn on a bottom aerator on a stratified pond, expect the water to briefly cloud up as bottom sediments get stirred. This clears within a few days as the pond stabilizes.
- Winter Operation: most owners run the system year-round. In freezing climates, running it through winter maintains an open hole in the ice, which improves gas exchange and prevents winterkill of fish.
