The Vanguard Pond Spa is a dual-purpose 3/4 HP submersible motor and float that pulls water from the surface (or from the bottom with the optional draw tube) and pushes it back out in an aerating boil - not a decorative plume. Summer, it lifts dissolved oxygen and knocks down surface algae without the display look of a fountain. Winter, the same motor keeps a hole open in the ice around docks, boat lifts, and shoreline aerators.
Runs on standard household 115 V or 230 V circuits and ships with an Intermatic daily timer and Inline GFCI on the 115 V build, or step up to the 230 V Deluxe GFCI Outdoor Breaker for permanent installs with a weatherproof shore panel and dedicated breaker switch. Cord options run from 50 ft up to 250 ft to reach the closest circuit on a shoreline, dock, or barn.

Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Minimum Water Depth: 24 in at the operating location. The motor needs enough clearance below the float to draw water without pulling in air.
- Pond Size: rated for ponds up to 1/2 acre. On larger water bodies, place the unit near the shore feature you want to keep open in winter, or run multiple units.
- Electrical: 115V is 9 A at 3/4 HP - use a properly wired 15 A circuit with GFCI protection. 230 V draws about 4.5 A - use a dedicated 230 V circuit. The Deluxe Breaker option ships with an outdoor GFCI breaker inside a weatherproof panel.
- Cord Selection: measure from the intended unit location to the closest shore circuit. Pick the shortest cord that reaches - excess cord left in coils on the shore is a nuisance and slightly derates voltage.
- Winter Operation: designed for continuous winter run to prevent ice damage around docks and boat lifts. Do not turn the unit off in freezing weather once the surrounding water has iced over - the motor stays warmer running than sitting idle.
- Mooring: two mooring ropes ship with each unit. You supply the anchor points on shore or in the water. Set the ropes so the unit floats in the position where you want the open hole in the ice.
- LED Kits: optional. Ship pre-wired for the motor. Install the light ring around the base of the float; the ring stays submerged and illuminates the aeration boil from below.
