The Vanguard Typhoon Floating Display Aerator is a hybrid that throws a dramatic single-pattern water display AND adds oxygen to your pond at the same time. Unlike traditional decorative fountains that just push surface water up, the Typhoon pulls water from below the float through a high-flow impeller and aerates it as it goes up - so you get a wide, frothy plume that catches the light beautifully and a measurable bump in dissolved oxygen.
Two motor sizes cover most installs: 3/4 HP (up to 1/2 acre, 12 ft spray height) and 1.5 HP (up to 1 acre, 18 ft spray height). Both ride on a rotomolded UV-resistant float and use a stainless steel pump housing with sealed bearings. Power options include 115V household current or 230V for installs with that available - the 230V config cuts current draw and supports longer cable runs.

Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Pond Size: 3/4 HP for ponds up to 1/2 acre; 1.5 HP for ponds up to 1 acre. For larger water bodies, look at the Vanguard Hydro-Torque lake fountain series.
- Pond Depth: 24 in minimum operating depth. Deeper pond = better aeration value from the Typhoon's bottom-draw design.
- Power: 115V or 230V (60 Hz). 230V is recommended for cord runs over 100 ft to reduce current draw and voltage drop. Plug into a properly sized GFCI-protected dedicated circuit.
- Cord Length: 50, 100, 150, 200 ft, or no cord. Match the cord gauge to the run length (see the Wire Size Chart linked under Manuals below).
- GFCI Configuration: the Inline option is compact and plug-and-play (115V only). The Deluxe Breaker Panel is the better choice for permanent installs and the only option for 230V.
- Mooring: the float has tether points but anchors and rope are sold separately. Plan for 2 to 4 anchors depending on water body size.
- Optional Bottom Draw Tube: the BDT (5 / 7 / 10 ft) extends the pump intake deeper into the water column. Recommended for ponds where you want maximum aeration value beyond surface display.
- Winterization: remove the unit from the water before freezing conditions. The shore enclosure stays on the bank year-round.
