The Vertex Air 4 XL2 Aerator System is the top of the XL2 line and the largest single-cabinet system Vertex builds for commercial ponds. Inside the Large QuietAir cabinet sit two 1/2 HP Brookwood rotary-vane compressors - 1 HP and four cylinders combined - pushing 8.6 CFM at depth. That airflow gets split across four XL2 AirStations with two 9 in self-cleaning membrane disks each, for a total of eight diffuser disks moving up to 19,300 gallons per minute. Roughly twice the capacity of the Air 3 XL2 and comfortably enough to aerate ponds up to 12 acres at depths greater than 8 ft.
Pick 115V or 230V at 60 Hz. The dual-compressor design provides redundancy as well as capacity - if one compressor needs service, the other keeps flowing while the first is being worked on. Each unit uses upgraded rotors, stators, valve plates, bearings, and capacitors tuned for continuous 24/7 operation. Vertex SafeStart auto-restart brings both compressors back online under maximum rated pressure without motor damage after a power loss, and thermal overload protection trips before either compressor can overheat.

Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Pond Surface: up to 12 acres on the Air 4 XL2 at depths greater than 8 ft. For larger water bodies, look at the Vertex XL5, HighFlow, or BriteStar systems.
- Pond Depth: 30 ft maximum operating depth. Standard XL2 AirStations are rated for 8 ft or deeper - for shallower water Vertex offers optional Shallow Water XL2 SW stations on request.
- Power: pick 115V or 230V (60 Hz). The cabinet draws more power than the smaller Air systems - confirm circuit sizing with a licensed electrician.
- Cabinet Placement: the QuietAir Large cabinet is heavier and larger than the Small or Medium cabinets - allow extra clearance and a sturdy mounting location. Use the included heavy-duty mounting pad. Shade helps keep compressor temperatures down.
- Tubing Runs: 3/8 in BottomLine self-weighted tubing connects the cabinet to each of the four AirStations. Measure each run separately and choose 50, 100, 250, or 500 ft above - you may need up to four tubing kits. The cabinet has a multi-valve control manifold to independently meter each station.
- AirStation Placement: drop the four XL2 stations to maximize coverage - typically in the deepest spots or spread across irregular shorelines. Self-sinking stainless bases prevent sinking into soft sediment.
- Sound Reduction: the Large Cabinet sound kit adds a muffler box, insulation, and quiet filter. Order at the same time as the system to get a single-shipment install.
- Winter Operation: the Air 4 XL2 can run year round. In freezing climates we recommend pulling the AirStations into shallower water during winter to maintain a small open-water area without freezing the cabinet.
