The Vanguard Solar Series pairs a 180-watt solar panel and a pre-programmed inverter/controller/battery-guard combo with the same Hiblow bottom-diffused aeration hardware Vanguard uses on their electric bottom kits. The result is a fully autonomous pond aerator that runs off sunlight - no electric bill, no shore-run wiring, and no need for grid power anywhere near the water.
Two configurations cover the range. The Shallow build (EBA-320 base) uses a Hiblow WG-3 3.2 CFM pump with a single diffuser for ponds up to 7 ft deep. The Deep build (EBA-520 base) steps up to a Hiblow HP-120LL 5.2 CFM pump with two diffusers for ponds up to 12 ft deep. Both share the same 180 W solar panel, adjustable mounting bracket, and IP65-rated aluminum component case that houses the electronics.

Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Sun Exposure: the 180 W panel needs a clear line of sight to the southern sky for at least 6 hours per day. In heavily shaded sites, run time drops proportionally.
- Pond Depth: Shallow kit is rated to 7 ft, Deep kit to 12 ft. If your pond is deeper or larger than about half an acre, call for custom sizing.
- Panel Mounting Location: the adjustable bracket handles most shoreline mounting scenarios. You supply the pole, roof anchor, or ground stakes. The panel needs to be secured against wind.
- Component Case Location: place the IP65 aluminum case within cable reach of both the solar panel and the air pump. Under a small overhang or on the shaded side of a shed extends the life of the electronics.
- Tubing Run: 100 ft of weighted sinking tubing ships with the kit. Measure from the pump enclosure straight to the deepest point of the pond. Call if you need a longer run.
- Startup Behavior: when a bottom aerator first runs on a stratified pond, the water will cloud up briefly as bottom sediments get stirred. It clears within a few days.
- Winter Operation: most owners keep the system running through winter. It opens a hole in the ice, improves gas exchange, and prevents fish winterkill in freezing climates.
