The Vertex Air 6 XL2 Aerator System runs the same dual-compressor Large QuietAir platform as the Air 4 and Air 5 but feeds six XL2 AirStations. That's twelve 9 in self-cleaning membrane disks on the pond floor, moving up to 22,600 gallons per minute. The extra coverage stretches effective aeration to roughly 17 acres at depths greater than 8 ft - the right choice for large municipal lakes, golf course irrigation reservoirs, and agricultural ponds where the smaller XL2 systems run out of capacity.
Pick 115V or 230V at 60 Hz. The two 1/2 HP Brookwood rotary-vane compressors share the load and provide redundancy - if one needs service, the other keeps running on its half of the manifold. Each compressor uses upgraded rotors, stators, valve plates, bearings, and capacitors tuned for continuous 24/7 operation. Vertex SafeStart auto-restart brings both compressors back online under maximum rated pressure without motor damage after a power loss.

Requirements & What to Know Before You Buy
- Pond Surface: up to 17 acres on the Air 6 XL2 at depths greater than 8 ft. For larger water bodies, look at the Vertex XL5, HighFlow, or BriteStar systems.
- Pond Depth: 30 ft maximum operating depth. Standard XL2 AirStations are rated for 8 ft or deeper - for shallower water Vertex offers optional Shallow Water XL2 SW stations on request.
- Power: pick 115V or 230V (60 Hz). The cabinet draws meaningful power - confirm circuit sizing with a licensed electrician.
- Cabinet Placement: the QuietAir Large cabinet is heavier and larger than the Small or Medium cabinets - allow extra clearance and a sturdy mounting location. Use the included heavy-duty mounting pad. Shade helps keep compressor temperatures down in summer.
- Tubing Runs: 3/8 in BottomLine self-weighted tubing connects the cabinet to each of the six AirStations. Measure each run separately and choose 50, 100, 250, or 500 ft above - you may need up to six tubing kits. The cabinet has a multi-valve control manifold to independently meter each station.
- AirStation Placement: drop the six XL2 stations to maximize coverage - typically in the deepest spots or spread across irregular shorelines. Self-sinking stainless bases prevent sinking into soft sediment.
- Sound Reduction: the Large Cabinet sound kit adds a muffler box, insulation, and quiet filter. Order at the same time as the system to get a single-shipment install.
- Winter Operation: the Air 6 XL2 can run year round. In freezing climates we recommend pulling the AirStations into shallower water during winter to maintain a small open-water area without freezing the cabinet.
